AScarletLeaf
Tereasa吐尼热阿·玉斯甫江
(note from Pat- This poem is a slightly modified sonnet! It has 14 lines, follows s mostly traditional rhyme scheme, and each line has 15 syllables! Not easy to do!)
I have had akindfriend—a scarlet leaf.
It had stolen my heart with a warm kiss.
I loved the thief, despite my misbelief.
I have felt the lovely leaf give me bliss.
I have passed by the quiet street in the breeze,
And flapping leaves have kissed me with grief,
Then I was amazed and picked it up. "Oh, please
I would need a friend to cling me to sleep."
"I shall be your friend, if you allow me,
Please do not refuse me or say good-bye."
The distance seems too far—maybe a sea.
How did we cross the range andmeetsohigh?
This sonnet speaks of a friendship beyond belief.
I have had agreat friend—a scarlet leaf.
